Always Watching cruises in Saratoga distaff

Saratoga Springs, NY — Always Watching, a 10-time winner in 2022 for trainer Jordan Derue and a top-flight mare at Saratoga Casino Hotel in recent seasons, was a dominant 1:53.2 winner in the $17,000 Fillies and Mares Open in Spa City on Monday (May 29).

The 5-year-old daughter of He’s Watching was the public’s 8-5 betting favorite and wasted little time moving out to the front end. Cruising unopposed through a fast first half in :55.4 with Derue at the controls, Always Watching wound up powering away from her rivals turning for home en route to her third win of the year and second in the Open. Fond Memories A (Billy Dobson), last week’s Open winner, was the runner-up; Alittlesidehustl N (Jay Randall) rallied to finish third.

After a slow start to 2023, Always Watching has firmly re-established herself as a top mare at Saratoga Casino Hotel by way of a 1:53.2 win in Monday’s Fillies and Mares Open. Jessica Hallett photo.

Always Watching paid $5.40 to win and led an exacta and triple that came back $35.20 and $78.50, respectively.

Live racing at Saratoga resumes on Saturday evening (June 3) with first post time set for 5 p.m.
