Campbellville, ON — After equaling the world record in her elimination, the undefeated American Jewel lowered the world record for 2-year-old fillies with a 1:50.2 effort in the C$633,000 She’s A Great Lady final on Saturday night (September 3) at Mohawk Racetrack.
The Jimmy Takter miss has a perfect six-for-six record in her debut season.
Big Mcdeal (Jody Jamieson) was on the front going past the first quarter in :26.4, but Pirouette Hanover (Ron Pierce), who was parked out, made a bid for the lead and cleared to the front. Shelliscape (Randall Waples) launched a first-over attack from third and poked a nose in front to clock the half in :53.4.
Pirouette Hanover drove on, parking Shelliscape, to hit the three-quarters in 1:21.2. The 3-5 favorite, American Jewel (Tim Tetrick) came three-wide from fourth at the head of the stretch and exploded from the backfield to score the victory by 1-1/2 lengths over a hard closing Economy Terror (Brian Sears). Pirouette Hanover faded to third.
“She did all she had to do today,” said Tetrick, following the win. “It was a great effort in world record time, how much more there could be I don’t know. She fought all the way to the wire.”
The homebred daughter of American Ideal-Trim Hanover now boasts C$440,391 in career earnings for owner/breeder Brittany Farms of Versailles, Kentucky. American Jewel paid $3.50 to win.
