Anthony Napolitano sweeps abbreviated Pocono card

from PHHA/Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Driver Anthony Napolitano swept the entire card at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Tuesday night (Oct. 2).

Both races.

Rain starting before the card had made the track good for the first race, which Napolitano won in 1:54.3 with the mid-level conditioned trotter Second Sister, moving past the quarter to a lead the pair would never surrender.

The rain intensified before race two, causing a further downgrading of the track to sloppy, but Napolitano’s tactics didn’t change. He had A And C Artist out and clamoring for the lead in front of the stands and reached the top just before the half – which is just when the skies really opened up, with high winds and lightning joining in the mix.

Napolitano kept A And C Artist rolling to hit the wire in 1:54 in the bottom-level claiming pace, and then went directly to the paddock after the race, bypassing the winner’s circle. The deteriorating conditions did not allow for safe racing, so the remainder of the card was cancelled.
