Bailey and Affrunti get slams at Vernon

Vernon, NY – Leon Bailey and Frank Affrunti put on a show driving four winners each at Vernon downs on Saturday night (Aug. 13).

Bailey wins the $9,200 Open Trot with Discus Hanover ($5)

Discus Hanover went straight to front and led to the first quarter in :27.3.  He put the field asleep with a :31 second quarter and was first to the half in :58.3.  He cruised to three-quarters in 1:27.4.

As they reached the stretch, Star Track Hanover (Steeven Genois) came all out to challenge as Lepanto (Barton Dalious) used a late brush but neither could get close to Discus Hanover, who won easily in 1:55.4.  Star Track Hanover held on to finish second.  Lepanto was third best.

Discus Hanover is a 5-year-old gelding by Credit Winner.  He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.  It was his third win this season.  He now has 31 lifetime victories.

Bailey got his other wins with Summer Storm ($11.40), Shrimp And Grits ($2.90), and Havana Ooh Nana ($7).  Affrunti finished first with Let’sflytogether N ($4), Passport To Art ($6), Thomas P Two ($3.60), and Wallet ($2.60).

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (Aug, 19) with a post time of 6:05 p.m.
