Batavia, NY — Officials at Batavia Downs Gaming were forced to cancel live racing on Sunday (July 31) due to the lack of entries. This made it impossible to put together a competitive card.
With the large amount of tracks currently operating in and around New York State, horsemen training on farms have a lot of racing options open to them and clearly it took its toll on the Batavia Downs entry box for Sunday.
“We regret to have to cancel Sunday’s program,” said Todd Haight Director/GM of Live Racing, “But there is currently a horse shortage in Western New York. And while every effort was made by our racing department to fill Sunday’s program, those efforts proved unsuccessful. “
The Old Fashion day celebration originally scheduled for July 31 has been moved back a week to Sunday (August 7).
Live racing at America’s oldest lighted harness track will be conducted as scheduled this Friday (July 29) and Saturday (July 30) with post time for the first race set at 6:15 p.m.
