Beads wins fourth straight; The Veteran sets new record

Lexington, KY — Beads scored his fourth consecutive victory on a hot Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 8) at The Red Mile in the lone division of Kentucky Sire Stakes for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters.

Driver Scott Zeron sent Beads to the front and drew away from his rivals to win in 1:51.4 for trainer Per Engblom and owners Renee Spahr and Christina Takter.

In the Kentucky Sire Stakes for 3-year-old filly trotters, David Miller sent Ms Savannah Belle to the lead and she dug in to hold off favorite Panem in 1:52.4. The Muscle Hill-Stubborn Belle filly is owned by Al Libfeld and trained by Per Engblom.

The Kentucky Commonwealth Series for 3-year-old colt trotters saw Awesomedabra and driver Elliott Deaton take the first division in 1:56.1. The other division was won by Sermon with driver Kasper Foget in 1:53.2.

Molto Bene and Fashion Charmer took the Kentucky Commonwealth Series for 3-year-old filly trotters. Molto Bene and driver Dexter Dunn stormed home to win in a fast 1:52.2. Dunn also steered Fashion Charmer to a front end win in 1:53.1.

In the undercard, The Veteran and driver Mark MacDonald scored by over 10 lengths in 1:50.1 to establish a new track record for older stallion trotters, eclipsing the previous 1:51.3 established by Revenue S. The 5-year-old horse by Muscle Mass out of the Yankee Glide mare Tequila Slammer is trained by Paul Kelley and is owned by Paul Kelley Racing Stable, SRF Stable, Jim Winske and Stephen Michaels.
