For the sixth consecutive time, Bold Eagle driven by Franck Nivard, had to settle for second place Sunday afternoon (Feb. 11) in the Prix de France at Vincennes. There seems to be an omen hanging over Bold Eagle this winter at this venue and once again, the top French trotter was denied a victory.

This afternoon it was “La Belle Blonde,” Belina Josselyn driven by Jean Michel Bazire, who caught the leading Bold Eagle just before the finish line to win the prestigious Prix de France with a purse for the winner of $220,000.
Bold Eagle was in command going round the last corner and into the stretch. Propulsion, driven by Ôrjan Kihlström, who had enjoyed a trip second-over was the first to attack and was followed by Belina Josselyn on the outside.
Like a Russian Troika, the tree top trotters raced down the stretch and finally Belina Josselyn got her head in front to win the 1-5/16 mile event in 1.53 (mile rate). Bold Eagle was beaten by a head followed by Propulsion.
This was the first victory for Belina Josselyn since she won the Group 2 race, the Prix Chambon P, last June.
