Belina Josselyn wins the 2019 Prix d’Amerique

Vincennes, FR — What a race the Prix d’Amerique 2019 turned out to be. Three horses head by head past the post. Impossible to judge the winner by the eye.

The photo finish showed, that the favorite Belina Josselyn, driven by her trainer Jean Michel Bazire just has edged out stablemate and longshot, Looking Superb driven by Alexandre Abrivard, who again was a nostril in front of Readly Express with Björn Goop, last year’s winner.  Fourth-placed was the third Bazire-trained horse in the field, long leader Davidson du Pont driven by Franck Ouvrie.

Belina Josselyn, an 8-year old mare by Love You, was timed in 1.54.3 (mile rate) –  she is the first mare to win the Prix d’Amerique since Moni Maker driven by Jean Michel Bazire did it in 1999.

The only USA-bred trotter in the field, Propulsion driven by Ôrjan Kihlström finished fifth, while second favorite Bold Eagle driven by Franck Nivard was a disappointing sixth.

From the total purse of 900,000 Euro the Bazire-trio took home 702,000 Euro. This was the fourth time Jean Michel Bazire won the Prix d’Amerique.

His first win was with Moni Maker in 1999. Second victory was won with Kesaco Phedo in 2004. In 2015 Bazire won with Up and Quick.
