Cranbury, NJ — The Breeders Crown and Walsh Harness are pleased to announce the creation of a new Most Valuable Trainer Award to be presented at the conclusion of the Breeders Crown races this Saturday (Oct. 29) at Woodbine Racetrack.
Breeders Crown and Walsh Harness wanted to do something to recognize the achievement of not only these champion horses, but also their dedicated and talented trainers.
The award will consist of a $2,000 Walsh gift certificate. Additionally, the winning trainer will receive Walsh’s latest innovation in harnesses, the 1600 Lite N Tuff harness set, valued at $500. The Most Valuable Trainer will also receive a commemorative Walsh/Breeders Crown trophy.
Walsh Harness’ President, Paul Treiber, is especially excited about the new association.
“The Hambletonian Society and the Breeders Crown represent the best of the best in our sport. Walsh has been dedicated to producing equipment that has been providing the highest quality, reliability, and durability since 1914, so the association was a natural. Trainers are a huge part of this game and this is a terrific way to honor them.”
The award will go to the trainer that accumulates the highest number of points based on a matrix that takes the following into account:
- The number of starters in each of the Breeders Crown races (one point per starter)
- Placings in the Breeders Crown races (10 points for first, five points for second, three points for third)
- 15 subjective award points (Walsh Harness, Hambletonian Society and Host Track judges each award five points)
