Breedings and merchandise needed to benefit New Vocations

by Dot Morgan, executive director, New Vocations

Laura, OH — New Vocations is currently organizing its tenth annual stallion and merchandise auction to be held in conjunction with the Blooded Horse Sale February 11 and 12. This is our most important fundraiser of the year and the life line of the program.

New Vocations offers hundreds of former racehorses that previously would have gone to slaughter a safe haven, transitional training, and placement in carefully screened and monitored homes.

Who wants the gelding with a broken sesamoid, the one with knee chips or pulled suspensories? And what about the little pacing filly or the middle-aged mare that aborted her last three pregnancies? We take these horses, start them under saddle, and care for their needs until a willing adopter can be found.

Then we educate the adopters on the idiosyncrasies of racehorses, answer myriads of questions, encourage them through problems, and offer training guidelines.

And we take the horse back when the adopter gets a divorce, loses a job, relocates to an apartment, changes interests, or simply no longer wants the expense! This is no small feat when you’re talking over 300 horses a year!

It takes a lot of resources to run a program like this. We must have help, lots of it.

New Vocations genuinely needs your support of this event. Stallion seasons, art, memorabilia, tack, gift items, vacation packages, and equine services are all in demand. New Vocations is a 501 (c) 3 public charity so donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

Please e-mail or call today with breedings or merchandise you have to contribute. dot@horseadoption.com or (937) 947-4020.
