Columbus, OH — Hambletonian champion Broad Bahn tuned up for Sunday’s Kentucky Futurity with a 1:53.2 qualifying win on Tuesday morning (September 27) at The Red Mile.
With James Rattray in the bike for trainer Noel Daley, Broad Bahn (Broadway Hall-Madonarail) went to the lead at the opening quarter in :28.4, then yielded to Live Jazz (Brian Sears) who was first on the rim at the :57.1 half-mile maker and still on the lead at the 1:25.1 three-quarter pole.
Broad Bahn moved back to the front by the top of the stretch and went on to a one length victory over Live Jazz in 1:53.2, trotting his final quarter in :28. Finishing third in the mile was the filly Crys Dream, who was five lengths back for trainer/driver Jean Dubois.
The 3-year-old pacing colt Shadyshark Hanover was a wire-to-wire, 34 length winner in a time of 1:52.2 in his morning test. Brian Sears was in the bike for trainer Erv Miller as the son of Cam’s Card Shark-Shady Past cut fractions of :28.1, :56 and 1:24.2 before pacing the final panel in :28.
