Calliope Hanover finds higher gear, wins Meadows distaff

Washington, PA — Calliope Hanover sustained a first-over move that carried her to victory in Thursday’s (May 18) feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, an $11,800 conditioned pace for fillies and mares.

Calliope Hanover was third when Hunter Myers sent her after the leader, Stay Happy, who maintained her margin until mid-stretch. That’s when the 3-year-old daughter of Stay Hungry-Castaway Hanover kicked into a higher gear and overtook Stay Happy, downing her by a length in a career-best 1:54.1. The hard-used Betting Fra earned third.
