Lexington, KY — Cam’s Eclipse, 14, standing his first season at stud at Crimson Lane Farm in Indiana, was euthanized Thursday (July 28) as a result of a severe case of colic. He was owned by Dr. Andy Roberts of Lexington, Ky.
A son of Cam Fella out of the $271,000-winnng BG’s Bunny mare Styx And Scones, Cam’s Eclipse had just a modest career on the racetrack before beginning stallion duty in 2002 at Starwin Farm in Michigan. He stood at Starwin until 2007, when he was moved to Peninsula Farm in Kentucky. Cam’s Eclipse’s oldest Kentucky foals are 3-year-olds this year. Roberts then sent Cam’s Eclipse to Crimson Lane in 2011 where he bred a limited number of mares.
Cam’s Eclipse’s richest and fastest performer is Michael Jacob, who earned $257,730 and had a mark of 1:50 set in 2009 at the Meadowlands. Michael Jacob was a 13-time winner in 2007, including a six-race win streak at Windsor Raceway for trainer-driver Peter Wrenn. Cam’s Eclipse also sired Doc’s Cash p,1:52.4f ($206,656), Gooch p,1:52.4h ($204,643) and T Red p,1:51.1 ($132,915).
Included among Cam’s Eclipse’s 2-year-old crop in Kentucky this year are a pair of early national season’s leaders. Doc’s Zippy won at the Mayfield fair in 2:04.3 in his first start in late May, while Doc’s Hope, a half brother to the 2007 New York Sire Stakes champion The Isle Of Pan, set a track record of 1:56.4 at Thunder Ridge in his first career start.
