Sacramento, CA — In a change from the original schedule, the Cal Expo harness meeting, which is set to begin on Friday, August 26, will find two-day racing weeks until October 6. There will then be racing on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night basis through December 17.
Cal Expo received permission from the California Horse Racing Board to eliminate three previously scheduled Thursdays in September. Those Thursdays were September 15, 22 and 29.
“At this time, we cannot say that we would have enough racehorses to support the three day a week program previously scheduled and approved by the CHRB,” said Director of Racing Dave Elliott. “By extending the two day per week program into October, we will be able to offer our fans a more competitive racing product with more starters per race.”
