Columbus, OH — The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), announced that it will hold a legislative hearing on Friday (June 22) at 9 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “H.R.2651, the Horseracing Integrity Act of 2017.”
In his June 2018 Hoof Beats magazine column, “Don’t We Have Better Things to Do?,” U.S. Trotting Association President Russell Williams outlined the USTA’s opposition to the proposed legislation, H.R.2651, and called on everyone in the harness racing industry to contact their local legislators to express opposition to this bill.

As part of the Subcommittee’s jurisdiction of sports integrity and safety, the hearing will examine the Horseracing Integrity Act and its impact on the horseracing industry. Members will have the opportunity to hear from a broad range of perspectives about the sport and the current regulatory framework governing it in the U.S.
“Horseracing has a storied history in the U.S. and remains an economic driver throughout much of the country. Our upcoming hearing will provide important perspectives on the current state of the industry. I look forward to learning more about the legislative framework surrounding the sport and potential policy implications for the future,” said Chairman Latta.
