Wilkes-Barre, PA — The deadline for accepting applications for the Harness Racing Youth League Camp at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs has been set for Saturday, June 9.

Applications can be picked up at the main switchboard at the Shamrock Building or by downloading at www.hhyf.org.

This year’s camp is set for July 16-20 at the Northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack. The camp provides youngsters, ages 11, 12 and 13, the opportunity to learn to drive racehorses. From grooming and care to harnessing, hitching and driving, the participants are exposed to hands-on aspects of the racing business.

On closing day of the camp, the boys and girls participate in racing exhibitions using the horses provided by the Harness Horse Youth Foundation.

Participants stay overnight at the East Mountain Inn in Plains Township.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association sponsor the camp in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission.

There is no charge for the 12 youngsters selected.
