Dover, DE — The Delaware Standardbred Owners Association is proud to announce the inaugural edition of the James and Barbara Boese Scholarships open to DSOA members or children and grandchildren of DSOA members.
The James and Barbara Boese Scholarships include $17,500 available to students with awards of $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500.
“Jim and I consider the racing community a part of our family,” said Barbara Boese. “We always want what is best for the horsemen and their families. Education is the backbone of our industry.”
The following requirements must be met in order to apply:
1. Applicant must be a DSOA member or a child or grandchild of a DSOA member pursuing higher education.
2. Applicant must be a High School graduate or its equivalent.
3. Applicant must have a 2.0 GPA.
4. Applicant must have taken the SAT or ACT test.
5. There is no specific field of study required; open to any pursuit of higher education
6. Applicant must be a full-time student.
The DSOA has an additional $6,000 in scholarship money that is awarded annually. The requirements for those scholarships are the same as seen above. In addition, students will use the same application to apply for all scholarship monies available through the DSOA.
In 2021, money donated by James and Barbara Boese was awarded for the first time as part of the DSOA scholarships. In 2022, this scholarship is being renewed by their generosity and being named the James and Barbara Boese Scholarships.

The Harness Horse Youth Foundation Scholarship committee will review and grade all applications as they have done in previous years when selecting the scholarship recipients.
