Delaware, OH — If the sun pops up this afternoon the world’s fastest half-mile track in Delaware, Ohio, will be lightning quick, thanks to track consultant Greg Coon and his track crew.
“We knew in advance that the rain was coming so on Monday we rolled the track with empty trucks to compact the surface so that the track could shed water,” said Coon. “Unfortunatly, Monday’s rain was a slow soaking drizzle.
“This morning (Tuesday) the top quarter-inch was soaking wet. So, we put rubber blades on the graders. They were like giant squeegees. We wiped the saturated sand off the top surface and put a fresh cushion down. All we need now is for the sun to come out with some fresh wind.”
First post time for Tuesday’s 17-race program is 12 noon.
