Delaware Valley USHWA accepting nominations for Caretaker of the Year

Harrington, DE — The Delaware Valley Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association is currently accepting nominations for its third annual Caretaker of the Year award.

The award is designed to recognize a caretaker/groom who works primarily in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia for a trainer in good standing. He/she must have a current Delaware, Maryland or Virginia groom’s license and can not currently be training horses.

To nominate a caretaker/groom for this award, trainers need to write a detailed letter (200 word minimum) explaining why a caretaker/groom from your stable deserves to be Caretaker of the Year. Please include the groom’s name, address, and phone number, along with your name, address, and phone number.

Caretakers/grooms are often the unsung heroes of the sport and this award memorializes their dedication. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 30.

All entries detailing why nominees are deserving of the 2022 USHWA DV Caretaker of the Year award should be emailed to devalleyushwa@gmail.com.

The winner will receive a $500 award courtesy of the Delaware Valley Chapter of USHWA and Jim and Barbara Boese at the annual Delaware Standardbred Owners Association banquet on Jan. 13. Delaware Valley USHWA would like to express their gratitude to the Boeses for their support of this initiative.
