DeLong doubles in rookie filly Indiana Sires Stakes

Anderson, IN — Two-year-old trotting fillies kicked off their Indiana Sires Stakes series on Tuesday (July 12) with a trio of events on the 13-race card at Harrah’s Hoosier Park sharing the spotlight and driver John DeLong notching a stakes double.

Myrll Vally and DeLong pulled a 14-1 upset in the $45,500 first division. After heavy favorite T’s Pride went off stride behind the gate, DeLong settled Myrll Vally along the rail in third while Flirtnwiththehelp (Trevor Smith) cut out the opening quarter in :28.3. ER Brandy (Don Eash) took over at the half in :59.2 before Swanderful Pearls (Doug Rideout) worked into command on the far turn at three-quarters in 1:28.3.

In the stretch, Myrll Vally rallied from fourth after patiently waiting through the middle portions of the mile, launching a :28 final quarter to get by Swanderful Pearls in the stretch and hit the line a length in front in 1:57.3. Swanderful Pearls held for the place position, with Flirtinwiththehelp rounding out the trifecta.

Myrll Valley stalked a contested pace and soared home for a 14-1 upset in her Indiana Sires Stakes split, giving driver John DeLong half of a stakes double.

It was the first career victory for Darryl Lyons trainee Mryll Valley following a second-place effort on July 4. Bred by Steven Mast, the daughter of Swan For All-Myrrh has now banked $25,250 for owners Aaron, Luke and Delvin Miller, along with Douglas Lyons. Myrll Vally returned $31.20.

DeLong returned to the winner’s circle in the $46,000 second division aboard Helpineedsomebody. DeLong put Helpineedsomebody into play early from post seven, but they found themselves a parked-out third through a :30 opening quarter led by Yo Cheyenne (Verlin Yoder). Helpineedsomebody continued her push to the front, clearing before the half in 1:00.2, remaining unchallenged through three quarters in 1:29.4, and trotting home in :28.3 to stop the timer in 1:58.2 a length in front. Meadowbrook Rose (Trevor Smith) rallied for second, with Yo Cheyenne finishing third.

It was the first victory in three starts for the Ernie Gaskin trainee who has yet to miss the board in her young career. Bred by Black Creek Farm and Hickory Hollow Stables, Helpineedsomebody — by first-crop stallion Helpisontheway and out of stakes winning-mare Muscle Baby Doll — has now banked $26,700 for owners Ernie Gaskin and Robert Rubin. Helpineedsomebody paid $6.20 to win.

Stallion Helpisontheway continued his impressive debut in the $46,000 third division with the heavily favored Yo Beth D. A broken tie-down proved to be no issue for the rookie, as owner-trainer-driver Verlin Yoder put Yo Beth D in the mix from the start. After briefly relinquishing the lead to Jasmine (James Yoder) through a :28.3 opening quarter, Yo Beth D was quickly marched to the front end at the half in :57.3.

On the turn, Yo Beth D and Yoder began to get separation on the field, opening up by four lengths at three-quarters in 1:26.4. In the stretch, Yo Beth D trotted home in :29 to score by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:55.4. Five Star Photo (Trace Tetrick) rallied for second, with Jasmine finishing third.

Yo Beth D took top honors in Tuesday’s Indiana Sires Stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies with a sparkling 1:55.4 effort. Dean Gillette Photography.

It was the second win in three lifetime starts for Yo Beth D, who established a new lifetime best with the effort. Bred by John Schmucker, the daughter of Helpisontheway-Scented Roses has now banked $33,000 in her young career. She paid $3.80 to win.
