Douglas Lyons, 66, dies

Columbus, OH — Douglas Duane Lyons, 66, currently residing in Anderson, Ind., died May 4, 2023, at Community Hospital in Anderson.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on June 18, 1956, to the late Dean and Ruby (Kammermann) Lyons.

Mr. Lyons grew up in Chicago, graduating from Hubbard High School. He attended Illinois State University for several years.

For 23 years, he worked for United Airlines at O’Hare International Airport on ramps and baggage claim.

Mr. Lyons was as loyal and honest as they came. He was a hard worker, quick witted, and extremely dedicated to his family. Family was always a priority.

Horses were his passion and he worked with them at Hoosier Park Casino and Racetrack.

He was a wonderful brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Lyons is survived by his brothers, Dennis and Darryl; nephew, Joseph; and cousin, Connie (Bob) Frerichs. He was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, David Zirkle; aunts, Ruth, Helen, and Maybelle; and uncle, Bud.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Legacy Funeral Home in Anderson on Monday (May 22) from 3-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.
