DSBF 2-year-old stakes, Pick-5 carryover headline Harrington week

Harrington, DE — The first leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stakes action for 2-year-olds headline the Sept. 26-28 week of racing at Harrington Raceway with 10 $20,000 divisions.

The pacing colts and geldings will be featured Monday with four divisions. The filly pacers will battle in a trio of splits on Tuesday with four divisions for trotters on Wednesday to close out the racing week. The top eight point earners from the two elimination legs will return for $100,000 finals the week of Oct. 10-12.

A Pick-5 carryover ($2,851.55) also will spice up the Monday card. The Pick-5 starts nightly in race two.

A wide open group of male pacers will be featured among the 27 horses, with eight of them already breaking their maidens. Owner George Teague Jr. and trainer Clyde Francis have five horses in the male pacing division.

Among the 18 pacing fillies, Stephen Messick’s Misty Coast (7-5, Art Stafford Jr.) has been the most impressive to date with a 1:55.2 win by 10-3/4 lengths over the track on Aug. 30.

A total of 23 trotters will compete in the four divisions Wednesday, two apiece for fillies and colts and geldings. While most among the group are very lightly raced or are making their first starts, George and Tina Dennis’ I Got It Made (Mike Cole) had a progressive second start with a 2:03 win over the track on Sept. 21 for trainer Joe Columbo.

Cliff Green has five trainees including Robert Allison Jr.’s Perfect Twenty (Tim Tetrick) who trotted in 1:56 recently at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Live racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule until Oct. 19. Post time nightly is 4:30 p.m.
