‘Eileen’ and ‘Metallica’ meet again in Pompano feature

by Michael Costanzo, public relations coordinator, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Velvet Eileen and My Metallica, separated by a nose in their most recent encounter, will renew acquaintances on Friday (July 6) when six of the top female pacers at Pompano Park convene for the featured $15,500 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Handicap Pace.

Owned by Rod Lorenzo, Ciro Gentile, and Pomtambo Stable, Velvet Eileen has visited the winner’s circle in three of five starts this year, including a victory in 1:53.3 when returning from a seven-week layoff for last week’s female pacing feature.

A winner of over $128,264 in her career, Velvet Eileen will start from post six for Friday’s pace with Wally Hennessey at the controls for conditioner Michile Lorenzo.

My Metallica, who has crossed the wire second in each of her last two appearances, both times beaten a neck or less, looks to improve on those results when starting from post five in the Friday feature.

The Illinois-bred daughter of Party At Artsplace was a winner at Pompano on May 25 when covering the mile in 1:53.3 and has finished in the money in each of her last eight appearances.

My Metallica, owned by Ciara Stable, Michael Polansky, and William Johnston III, will be driven by Tom Sells for trainer Tom Harmer.

Fred Monteleone Stable LLC’s Red White Blues, a winner in her first two appearances at Pompano Park prior to a fourth place performance in her most recent effort, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for Friday’s pace.

The daughter of Majestic Blue prevailed on June 15 when covering the mile in 1:54.3 before returning one week later on June 22 to score in a seasonal best 1:52.1.

Red White Blues will start from post four on Friday and will be driven by trainer Bruce Ranger.

Rounding out the field for Friday’s $15,500 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Handicap Pace is Tintabella N, a seven-time winner in 2007; Montana Moonlite A, who crossed the wire second to Red White Blues in her most recent appearance; and Cape Cove Daisy, a winner two starts ago in 1:52.2.

Seminole Series continues

The Seminole Series for 2-year-old Florida-bred filly pacers will continue Friday, as the $4,500 second leg will be contested as a non-wagering event prior to the 12-race Pompano program.

Alice Springs, a three length winner in 1:59.3 in the first leg of the series, headlines the eight horse field. Owned by Ciara Stable and Michael Polansky, the daughter of first-crop sire N Aboriginal will start from the outside post with Wally Hennessey at the lines for trainer James Brown.

Post time for the second leg of the Seminole Series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
