Columbus, OH — Elliott E. Tracy Sr., 89, of Buxton, Maine, died March 17, 2018, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Bar Harbor on June 14, 1928, a son of the late Elvin and Norine (Woodworth) Tracy and grew up in Bar Harbor and Steuben. He was a Bar Harbor High School graduate and played baseball, basketball, football and all-state football during his school years. He went on to graduate from Washington Teachers College in Machias and played basketball during his college years.
Mr. Tracy proudly served his country and enlisted in both the United States Army and the United States Navy and served in the Korean War.
He will always be remembered as a dedicated teacher. He taught at Gorham High School for 21 years and was involved with Bonny Eagle High School afterward.
He enjoyed Standardbred racing and was active as a racing official, starter, judge, and a racing secretary for many years at Scarborough Downs. He was also proud to be in the Masons.
He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, wit, great stories, and his love of history.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Horace, Norita, and Alice; former wife, Chloe; and a son, Lyle. He is survived by his wife, Maureen (Davin); children, Elliott Jr., Holly, Julie Paulsen, and Russell; daughter-in law, Kathy (Lyle’s wife); stepchildren, Kenny Brink, Colleen Brink, and Kelly (Chris) Willey; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday (March 24), from 4-6 p.m. at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd. (Rt. 22), in Buxton. Burial will be at a later date.
