Emotional victory for Björn Goop

Gothenburg, Sweden – The Aby Stora Pris raced at the Aby track in Gothenburg, Sweden was won by Moni Viking with Björn Goop in the bike. Moni Viking was timed 1:56 (mile rate) in the approximately two-mile trotting event.

It was a very emotional victory for Björn Goop, as his late father, legendary trainer Olle Goop, who died a few months ago, had his birthday on this day.

This was the second time Norwegian trotter; Moni Viking won the Aby Stora Pris with a purse for the winner of $150,000.

Daniel Redén-trained Hail Mary with Ôrjan Kihlström was the heavy favorite and was in command most of the trip.
Going into the stretch, Hail Mary was leading by two lengths but on the outside Moni Viking came flying and went by Hail Mary to win by two lengths.

Moni Viking is sired by Maharajah and out of a mare sired by Coktail Jet – Moni Viking has lifetime winnings of just shy of $1 million.

On the same card, 7-year-old Jaguar Dream with trainer/driver Claes Sjöström won a race over the mile in a new track record of 1.51.3f – Jaguar Dream is sired by Love You and out of a mare sired by Cantab Hall.

The 4-year-old Italian mare, Calypso di Poggio (sired by Ready Cash) trained by Erik Bondo and with Jörgen Sjunnesson in the bike won the Ragnar Thorngrens Memorial raced over 1 5-16 mile in 1.54.1f (mile rate), which is a new world record for 4-year-old mares.

The old record was held by Lisa America at 1.54.2f. The world record stays in the family as the dam of Calypso di Poggio, Princess America is a sister to Lisa America.
