The 47-year-old Finnish top driver Mika Forss became the third horseman from his country to win the European championship for drivers held yesterday (July 29) at the Mariendorf track in Berlin, Germany.
The championship was decided after six races and Forss scored a total of 60 points. He was followed by Bjorn Goop of Sweden with 52 points and Rick Ebbinge of the Netherlands with 47 points.
The first six finishers in the championship will advanced to the World Driving championship next year in Canada.
Joining Forss, Goop and Ebbinge on their trip to Canada will be Erik Hoitomt, from Norway, and Gerhard Mayr, from Austria, who both scored 45 points and Michael Nimczyk, from Germany with 44 points.
Forss, the new European champion, is the leading driver in Finland and has won 181 races this year and has a career total of 2,866 wins.
Two other Finnish drivers, Pekka Korpi and Jorma Kontio, have also won the European Championship. Korpi won three times and Kontio twice.
