Bangor, ME — Win streaks were extended by a pair of veteran campaigners on Wednesday (May 21) when Word Out and Prophet Blue Chip both scored their fourth consecutive wins over a breezy and chilly course at Bangor Raceway.

Driver Heath Campbell steered Word Out (1:56.1-$7.00) through a confident first-over assault while in pursuit of the front-running Odds On Brexit (Drew Campbell), who himself was attempting to extend a win streak out to three. Charging headlong into a stern :57.1 back half, Word Out made consistent progress toward his streaking foe, finally gaining the lead in mid-stretch, before powering his way to a 1-3/4 length margin over the pacesetter at the wire.
Perfect in four seasonal starts, the win marked the 21st career victory for the 8-year-old son of Well Said who is owned and trained by Ronald Dinsmore.
A relative newcomer to the state of Maine circuit, Prophet Blue Chip (1:58.3-$4.60) also scored his fourth in a row while remaining a perfect three-for-three since setting up shop at Bangor Raceway this year. The streak, which began on April 24 at Monticello Raceway, has continued with three local wins featuring evenly-rated front-end journeys, with Wednesday’s victory march engineered by driver McGwire Sowers.
The 10-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven, who is trained by Benson Merrill for owners Robert Sholes, Edward Davis, and David Dziengiel, now boasts 41 career wins.
In other Bangor news, driver Nick Graffam vaulted to the top of the leaderboard on Wednesday after powering through the afternoon program posting a driving triple on the card.
Graffam launched a determined first-over bid with Pretty Gorgeous (2:00.4-$3.20), scoring only the second win of the season from Bangor’s dreaded eight-hole; glided gate-to-wire with Golden Tree (2:01.2-$3.20) to win the $6,000 final of the Spring Into Action Series; and took advantage of every glimpse of daylight with Always A Gentleman (2:00-$26.40), riding the pylons as the rail opened up like the parting of the Red Sea, in a manner reminiscent of Maine’s legendary driver, Leigh Fitch.
Bangor Raceway will showcase live harness racing throughout the mid-summer season, featuring sessions on Wednesday afternoons with a 3 p.m. post time, and the popular Sunday matinees going to post at 12:10 p.m.
