Shelbyville, IN — Freshman fillies were featured at Indiana Downs on Friday evening (September 23) in the first round of Indiana Sires Stakes competition. A total of eight $40,000 divisions were carded — four for pacers and four for trotters — with favorites winning five splits.
Cincinnati Star kicked off the 14-race card with an impressive seven length romp in the first $40,000 division for trotting fillies in a time of 2:00.3. Driven by Trace Tetrick for trainer Steve Carter, the Cincinnati Kid-Eastern Star Two freshman took control after a :29.2 opening panel and clicked off fractions of :59.3 and 1:30.3 before leading the field into the stretch. The heavy favorite closed out the mile with a :30 last quarter to win convincingly. Cincinnati Gal and Dan Shetler followed in second, with Bar Sue and Sam Widger third.
Bred by Double Spring Farm, Cincinnati Star has won nine of 13 seasonal starts. Owned by Peggy Carter, Sheila Hummel, Robert Reid and Great American Stables, LLC, the filly has earned $195,810 to date.
Pretty Ann Savage and Widger used the outer flow to their advantage to win the second $40,000 division for trotting fillies Friday night, stopping the clock in 2:01. The victory was the second of the season for the Keystone Savage-Pretty Ann lass, trained by Robert Taylor. Leaving the gate next to last, Pretty Ann Savage moved to the outside early as E R Kayla and Don Eash set fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:30.2. Following Blueridge Abigail to the front, Pretty Ann Savage overtook the new leader and E R Kayla in the stretch to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Carry The Pride finished third as E R Kayla slipped to fourth.
Bred by Lester Beechy, the filly is owned by Desyllas Racing LLC, William Beck and Carol Rieken of Illinois. Pretty Ann Savage now has $52,000 in earnings from five starts.
She’s Country and Charlie Conrad tipped three wide around the final turn and trotted home with a full head of steam to win the third split in 2:01.1. The Cincinnati Kid-Kiss Dot Com filly sped home in :28.4 to win by 4-1/2 lengths. Favored BJ’s Elegant Image finished second, followed by Americon Idol. The victory was the fourth in 12 starts for She’s Country. She has earned $68,448 this season for her connections.
Richard Reisert and Antie M wired the field in the last division to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 2:01. The Rocky Balboa-Daisy Jo filly was followed across the line by JS Foxy Lady. Ruby Too rounded out the trifecta. Bred and owned by Richard and Mary Link, Antie M has won eight of 12 starts, accumulating earnings of $83,000. The winning time established a new mark for the filly.
Ccruby Copperstone led all pacing fillies Friday night with a 1:55.1 clocking in her $40,000 Indiana Sires Stakes division. Driven by Jason Dillander, the LCB-Precious Prize freshman won by two lengths for trainer Dick Macomber to pick up her second seasonal score. American Girl raced second and favorite Robert’s Ideal paced third. Bred by L J Stone and Phillip Hawk, Ccruby Copperstone is owned by Tanah Merah Farms LLC. She has earned $45,650 and took her mark in the victory.
Miss Millie and Trace Tetrick held off a challenge by Jodi Girl and Sam Widger to win their respective division by a neck in a time of 1:56. Mamajons Bluegrass, driven by Peter Wrenn, finished third to the favorite. Trained by Alvin Miller, the Dontgetinmyway-Miss Mica 2-year- old earned her second win of the season. She is owned by Ted Comerford, who bred the filly in partnership with Twila Harts.
Heavy favorite Insatiable Desire moved to the top after a :28 opening panel and never looked back for driver Kayne Kauffman, winning her $40,000 split by four lengths in a time of 1:56. Kerosene and Welcome To Walmac rounded out the trifecta. The Pro Bono Best-Silver Romance filly added her fourth win in five starts for owners Lester Clemmons, Brian Clemmons, John Daskivich and Jodi Daskivich. Insatiable Desire has racked up $83,000 in earnings in 2011.
Sheza Cool Cookie and Rick Farrington benefitted from a pocket trip to score a 1:57 win in the last ISS division of the night. Taking the lead at the top of the stretch, the Mark Johnathan-Gingers Hot Cookie filly paced to a three length victory. Lima Calliope finished second with She’s Shocking third. The victory was the third in four starts for the freshman. Bred by Larry Smith and owned by Rodney Lorenzo and Souren Hovsepian, Sheza Cool Cookie now possesses earnings of $56,950.
