Freshman trotters face off at Hoosier

Anderson, IN — Four third-round divisions of Indiana Sires Stakes action — two each for 2-year-old trotting fillies and 2-year-old male trotters — highlighted Wednesday’s (Aug. 17) 14-race card at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.

Yo Beth D made her first start for new connections a winning one as she delivered an open-length 1:54.3 victory in the opening $66,000 division for trotting fillies. With Trevor Smith in the bike for new trainer Todd Luther, Yo Beth D went to the front and never looked back, kicking home in :27 to finish 11 lengths in front of T’s Pride (Trace Tetrick).


Yo Beth D was a decisive winner in her Indiana Sires Stakes split at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.

The daughter of Helpisontheway-Scented Roses has now won four of five lifetime starts. Now owned by Black Magic Racing LLC, Yo Beth D is undefeated in stakes action this season.

In the second split for trotting fillies, Stella Rose and Mike Oosting utilized opposite tactics, scoring from off the pace after a ground-saving trip. Stella Rose found late racing room up the inside and used a :27.2 final quarter to stop the timer in 1:56.4, two lengths better than Swan Fancy (Peter Wrenn).

Trained by Byron Hooley, the daughter of Dover Dan-Rose Run Rae recorded her second win from seven seasonal starts and has now bankrolled $44,587 for Summit Pacing Acres LLC.

Texsong Soprano and John DeLong delivered as the heavy favorite in the opening $68,000 division for trotting colts. Texsong Soprano moved first-over down the backside and continued marching to the wire, using a :27.3 final panel to hold off a late charge from Jailhouse Dance (Oosting) to win in 1:56.3.

Trained by Missy Essig, the son of Text Me-Muscling In has now won three of five starts in his young career and hans earned $87,222 for owners by Joe D. and Daryl D. Yoder.

In the second division, Bourbon Courage and Trace Tetrick waited until the stretch to make their game-winning move, employing a :26.3 final quarter to track down Empire Builder (Brandon Bates) late in the lane to win in a lifetime best 1:56.

Erv Miller trains Bourbon Courage, a half-brother to 2021 Hambletonian winner Captain Corey. The son of You Know You Do-Luv U All now sports a lifetime bankroll of $79,290 for the partnerhship of Bowie Racing, D&M Trading and Anthony Lombardi.

The $250,000 Indiana Sires Stakes Super Finals are slated for Oct. 14 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
