Freshmen featured at Clearfield (Pa.) Sunday and Monday

Clearfield, PA — The first two days of a four-day meet at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds were devoted to Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes racing for 2-year-olds, with trotters going on Sunday (July 28) and pacers on Monday (July 29).

The brightest star to shine among the freshmen was pacing filly Dream Dancing, who won for the fourth time at the fairs this year. Her final Clearfield clocking of 2:01.4 came within two-fifths of a second of the eight-year-old divisional track standard of Chrome Over. Dream Dancing, a daughter of A Rocknroll Dance and Clearly Foxy, finished over 20 lengths clear of her competition, stepping home in :58.4. Trainer-driver Dave Brickell shares ownership with Mitchell York.

Two other divisions of the “A” filly pace went to the combination of driver Shawn Johnston and trainer Gary Johnston. The Captaintreacherous-I Need Hotstuff filly Silly But Serious won her fourth in a row on the fair circuit with a 2:05.1 score for owners Gary Johnston and Joyce Benkart, while the Well Said-Read All About It filly Write All About It improved to four wins in seven starts with a 2:07.4 victory for owner Dr. William Solomon.

Shawn Johnston also won the sole division of the colt pace with the Ponder-Odds On Affair freshman Champ Charbel in 2:02.1 for owner-trainer Joe Karrat. It was Chap Charbel’s third win in four tries on the fair circuit this season.

The fastest winner on the trot was the Father Patrick-Cocktail Attire filly Cocktails N Dreams, who broke her maiden in 2:05.1 for driver Tony Schadel and trainer Linda Schadel, also the owners. It was the first fair start for Cocktails N Dreams, who had earned checks in two pari-mutuel Sire Stakes divisions.

In the trotting male ranks, the Possess The Will-The Yankees Win colt No Name Yankee won in the fastest clocking, 2:06.1, in the “B” Sire Stakes section for owner-trainer-driver Roger Hammer. Two of the three “A” divisions for males went to the circuit’s leading trainer and driver Todd Schadel, behind Cool Down Hanover (2:07) and Manhattanup No Ice (2:06.2).

Three-year-olds now take center stage at Clearfield, with sophomore trotters on Tuesday (July 30) and pacers on Wednesday (July 31). Both cards are scheduled to start at noon.
