Edgerton, OH — The Fulton County Fair at Wauseon, Ohio, completed a very successful two-day meet with a 14-race card on Tuesday (Sept. 5). Many grandstand activities conducted by Jim and Bill Ehrsam and Amy Pennington were certainly contributing factors to the success of the fair’s harness racing program.
McLucky (McArdle-Luckmustbealady) turned in the fair’s fastest pacing mile in capturing the second division of the 3-year-old colt pace in 1:56.2. Mark Headworth drove the gelding for trainer Jeff Miller. Michael Creps and the Jeff Miller Stable are the owners of McLucky.
The fastest trot of the meet went to Viewlander (Coventry-Tagliaview) in 2:01.2. Michael Patalan owns the 9-year-old gelding with Eric Patalan serving as both the trainer and driver.
Another 9-year-old gelding was victorious in the fair’s signature race, the Earl Hallett Memorial Trot, when Herbie L (Pegasus Spur) came home first for the fifty-third time in his career. Herbie L is owned by the LeVan Stables Inc. with Herb LeVan doing the training and Cameron McCown performing the driving chores. The winning time for the Earl Hallett Memorial Trot was 2:02.4 with five horses in the win photo.
Don Harmon and Cameron McCown both had three wins for the week to lead all drivers. Chris Beaver and Jeff Miller led all trainers with two victories apiece.
A big “hats-off” to Jim Ehrsam and Jamie Buehrer for overseeing a well-run program. A big thanks are in line for all who volunteered to contribute in any way that they could. Last, but not least, thanks to Lynn Smith for her usual good job of running the Speed Office.
The Ohio Fair Racing Conference will continue with racing next week at the Williams County Fair at Montpelier and the Wyandot County Fair at Upper Sandusky. The action at Montpelier will take place on Tuesday (Sept. 12) at 6:30 p.m and on Thursday (Sept. 14) at 1:30 p.m.
Upper Sandusky will host racing on Wednesday (Sept. 13) and Thursday (Sept. 14) with a 5 p.m. post time each day.
