Lebanon, OH —- Even-money favorite Garbo went wire-to-wire on Thursday (April 2) at Miami Valley to sweep the George ‘Red’ Owens Memorial Series for fillies and mares.
It was the second consecutive night that owner O.D.L. Robinson and trainer Diane Hartsook have accomplished the feat as stablemate Smokey Joe’s Café captured the Omar Hiteman Memorial championship for horses and geldings on Wednesday.
Driver Kayne Kauffman took no prisoners in the $10,000 feature, leading the field through fractions of :27.3, :57.4 and 1:25.4 before widening the margin to 3-3/4 lengths at the wire, reached in 1:54.2.
The 5-year-old Sportsmaster mare never had an anxious moment as she completed the sweep of the three-week series for distaff pacers who were non-winners of two races or $15,000 lifetime through the March 1 nomination deadline.
