George “Ronnie” Leager, 83, dies

Columbus, OH — George “Ronnie” Roland Leager, 83, of Sudlersville, Md., died Oct. 31, 2021, in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Mr. Leager was born in Chestertown, Md., Aug. 18, 1938, the son of the late George H. and Virginia (Thompson) Leager. His passion for farming started as a young boy and eventually led to him purchasing the farm in Sudlersville where he resided the last 53 years, milking and raising dairy cows, as well as raising and training Standardbred racehorses. Over the years he raced many nice horses, including his pride and joy, Slick Tony.

Mr. Leager also served in the national guard for nine years, was a member of the Farm Bureau, Holstein Association, and the U.S. Trotting Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, George “Ricky,” Arthur and James; his first wife, Jean Ann Miller; and brothers, Clifton and Larry. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nola; son, Steven; daughters, Laura Dove and Trish Savidge; sisters, Mary Layton, Anne Boyles, Beverly Poore, Brenda Hahn and Barb Wallace; and four grandchildren.
