Keith Gisser offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-4 at Northfield Park on August 3, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program. Northfield Park Pick-4, Races 8-11, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 Wednesday features a $10K guaranteed Pick-4 on races 8-11, with a low 14 percent takeout. Monday was a very frustrating night as we get Amos Moses (a second pick in the ninth) home and top pick The Long Goodbye in the 10th — both home at $16.60 (7.3-1), but our single in the 11th, Westedge Matt, stopped after taking pressure and we lost out on a hittable $3,099-plus Pick 4.
$1 play: 2579/14/1349/6 = $32
$1 play: 579/1/134/26= $18
Analysis:
Race 8: Lots of contenders here, but nobody whose form exactly instills confidence so we have to go deep.
Race 9: I was tempted to single (1) Powerful Cam after a dominating win at the bottom. Plus, Russ Swartz has been en fuego lately. But, he is moving up and we have been waiting for (4) Currently Flying to go forward. I would hate to see a repeat of my I’ve Got Life play from last week.
Race 10: Again, lots of contenders, but not many with recent wins. (2) Chang Dynasty has made breaks in three of his last three starts. He’ll still be favored. Value in this one.
Race 11: (6) SJ’s Manawa Sam moves up off two straight life marks. I know many ‘cappers don’t like older horses coming off life marks, but that is logic I have never understood. (2) Anastasia Wildfire can fly late, so she goes on my saver ticket.
