Heavy rains presented a sloppy track and a strong speed bias, and Montrell Teague used the conditions to his advantage by sending Goldberg right to the top. The 5-year-old Mr Wiggles entire set uncontested fractions of :27.3 and :56.1 before Itsrockandroll A crept first-over up the backstretch and into second past three-quarters in 1:23.3. In the stretch, Goldberg maintained a safe lead, winning by a diminishing neck as the 4-5 favorite. Numbered Account (Tim Tetrick) rode the pocket and finished second; Itsrockandroll A (Corey Callahan) finished third after enduring a rugged first-over journey.

Clyde Francis trains Goldberg for Teague’s MST Racing Inc.

Of note, the top two finishers in the Open, Goldberg and Numbered Account, are both alumni of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund program.

Racing at Dover Downs resumes on Monday. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
