by Jennifer Starr, for The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono
Wilkes-Barre, PA — As the racing season heads into the fall at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, the annual search for grey or roan pacers begins for the Grey Ghost and Poltergeist Pace.
Set for Tuesday (Oct. 31), Halloween night, it will be the perfect night for the ghostly greys to “appear” on the five-eighths-mile oval in Wilkes Barre, Pa.
The race will once again be sponsored by the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y., and Pocono is lending a hand to help raise money for the Greyhound Exhibit at the Museum, honoring the great trotter, by selling a collectible Greyhound wristband in the racing lobby, as well as a souvenir Grey Ghost and Poltergeist mug and other fun items.
The winning horse will be presented with his or her trophy by children of Pocono horsemen in costume, and the winner’s circle will be sporting spooky decor to set the mood for the race.
Children in costume are welcome, as there will be plenty of candy.
Post time for the night card is 6:30 p.m., and the race number is TBA. Expect the unexpected in the post parade, as in the past, a few drivers have been replaced with strange and scary creatures of the night.
Anyone interested in being a part of this fun event with their grey or roan should contact Jennifer Starr at 570.831.2195 as soon as possible.
