Wilkes-Barre, PA — Gweneeee J, winner of three straight coming into Tuesday night’s (Nov. 14) $17,000 conditioned distaff pacing feature at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, promptly continued on her form spree by going wire-to-wire in 1:51.2 to make it four in a row.
The daughter of American Ideal, trained by Ross Croghan for the Let It Ride Stables Inc., was put in front early by driver Andrew McCarthy and looked in control throughout, doubling a one-length lead over pocketsitter Set Me Up in the last quarter to push her seasonal earnings over $100Gs to $102,265 and her lifetime account to $267,557.
McCarthy came right back to take the last race $16,000 co-feature, guiding the Western Ideal filly Tica Hanover to victory in 1:51.4. The Travis Alexander-trainee moved to the lead in front of the stands and would not be caught, raising the sophomore’s earnings to $59,120 in her first year of racing.
Pocono has four cards left on its 2017 schedule: this coming Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday (no Monday card), and then the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the seasonal closer on Nov. 25.
