Harness Racing Immortal nominations deadline approaches

from the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

Goshen, NY — The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is inviting Immortal nominations for the Class of 2007.

All museum members, in good standing, have the privilege of nominating persons and horses whom they feel have made a significant contribution to the sport of harness racing. The nominees must be deceased three years or more to be eligible for consideration. Nominations must include a complete biography of the subject, detailing harness racing career statistics. Nominations must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2007. They may be emailed to hrmdir@frontiernet.net or mailed to The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 590, Goshen, NY 10924.

Last year, the Immortals Nominating Committee announced that the Trustees of the Museum had unanimously endorsed the election of renowned trotting stallion Bonefish. On Sunday, July 1, 2007, “Hall of Fame Day,” Bonefish will enter the Hall of Fame of the Immortals, during ceremonies at the museum.

On that same evening, 2007 Living Hall of Fame inductees trainer/driver Jimmy Arthur, driver Wally Hennessey, and racetrack executive and United States Trotting Association president F. Phillip Langley, together with racehorses Cam’s Card Shark and Continentalvictory, who will enter the Living Horse Hall of Fame, will be honored.

The Harness Racing Museum will also formally open its latest exhibition “A Drive To Win.” Funded by private contributions and a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, the presentation will spotlight drivers who were always in the field but, through circumstance or fate, rarely won major harness races.

Commencing June 30, five days of exciting harness racing will take place at neighboring Historic Track. Post time is 1:00 p.m.

To recognize these special events, Goshen will again host its very popular “The Great American Weekend,” a special time of village activities that include crafts fairs, book sales, art shows, marathons, bed races, and outdoor picnics. A “Twist & Shout” concert will be held at the track on the Friday evening. For the third year in a row, The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame will waive admission charges for the entire Hall of Fame weekend (Friday, June 29 through and including Monday, July 2).

If you would like information on how to become a museum member, eligible to nominate Immortals and vote for members of the Living Horse Hall of Fame, or require information on the induction ceremonies, or other museum services, please call (845) 294-6330 or visit our website, www.harnessmuseum.com. There you will also find special rate information on area hotels over the Hall of Fame weekend. Those planning to visit at that time are urged to book early as room availability becomes extremely limited.

The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, a not-for-profit educational institution, is dedicated to preserving the past, protecting the present and promoting the future of the American-born sport of harness racing. The museum is located at 240 Main Street, in historic Goshen, New York, 55 minutes from Manhattan. It is open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. November through March and 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. April through October.
