Goshen, NY — The Lunch & Learn Midday Lecture series, entitled “Orange County: Hollywood of the East” and presented by Seth Goldman, originally scheduled for Monday, September 12, has been postponed until Monday, September 26. Circumstances attributed to Tropical Storm Irene at the Harness Racing Museum have warranted a postponement of this event.
Partake of a delicious buffet lunch with delightful speakers at the Harness Racing Museum and discover all the hidden historical treasures this county has to offer! Bring your friends on Monday, September 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., share in a scrumptious meal and learn something new as Neversink Valley Museum of History & Innovation’s Executive Director Seth Goldman treats us with his engaging conversation about how, once upon a time in the early 20th century, Hollywood came to visit Orange County and created more than 20 films in the picturesque Neversink River Valley area.
Tickets are $18 for museum members and $20 for non-members and includes a buffet lunch with beverages and dessert. The museum is located at 240 Main Street, Goshen, NY 10924. Reservations are strongly suggested by calling 845.294.6330.
After enjoying lunch, Goldman will share with guests colorful stories of how stars once descended upon the town of Cuddebackville and filmed Westerns, dramas and comedies. D.W. Griffith, early Hollywood mogul, considered the area to be “the most beautiful, altogether the loveliest spot in America…There is a quality about the light there, particularly a twilight that I have never found elsewhere; it is transcendently illuminative for (moving) pictures.”
Goldman will also feature several short “flicks” that were shot in the area; films that may have been forgotten with time but remain treasures worth remembering.
