Harrah’s Philadelphia handles $1M for third time in 2021

Chester, PA — Harrah’s Philadelphia enjoyed its third million-dollar handle day of the 2021 season on Friday afternoon (July 30), as $1,027,659 was wagered on the 14-race card.

On the racetrack, a quartet of $12,600 events for developing horses headlined the action.

In the event for male pacers, Carbine showed his dominance as he sped home in :27.3 to post a 1:52 win. Coming off a fifth-place finish in an Adios elimination, where he missed making the final by only 1-1/2 lengths, the sophomore Somebeachsomewhere colt proved have to have too much for the opposition, finishing 1-1/2 lengths clear of Louie The Looper for driver Todd McCarthy, trainer Tony Alagna, and the partnership of Let It Ride Stables Inc., Bottom Line Racing LLC and Howard Taylor.

In the section for female pacers, the 3-year-old Sweet Lou filly Briar secured a pocket journey and then closed up the inside to defeat Remy Aurora by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.3, a new mark. David Miller drove the Ron Coyne Jr. trainee; his Ron Coyne Stables Inc. shares the ownership in the winner with Blair Corbeil, Mike McAllister and Edward Pachuta.

The first of the two trotting contests went to Tequila N Roses, who raced just off a front-end fight and then caught pacesetter Tranquility K by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.3 for driver Vinny Ginsburg and trainer-lessee Teresa Willabus, giving the 4-year-old Amigo Hall mare two wins in her last three starts. In the other section, the 3-year-old Chapter Seven gelding Steel took advantage of a drop in company from the New York stakes crowd, making two moves to secure the lead amid a fast pace and then winning by open lengths in a lifetime best of 1:55.1 for driver Andy Miller, trainer Julie Miller, and the ownership of Pinske Stables and Crawford Farms Racing.

The fast-class pacing set are ready to go in a $16,200 feature on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 1) at Harrah’s Philadelphia, with half the field of eight rising off victories and early favorite Pyro starting from post four for driver Daniel Dube.
