Columbus, OH — Numerous media outlets, including the Detroit News, have reported that Hazel Park in Michigan closed on Thursday (April 5).
The 69-year-old track first hosted harness racing in the spring of 1953, which was added to Thoroughbred meets, conducted since 1949, to become a dual-breed facility through 1984. From 1985-2013, the Michigan track hosted harness racing exclusively.
In 2014, Hazel Park converted to Thoroughbred racing only.
With the closing, it leaves the harness track at Northville Downs as the only horse racing track in Michigan.
