Scarborough, Maine — On a wind driven raceway over the course of one hour, the Heidi Rohr Stable boldly served notice on Wednesday (April 2) that they would once again be a major force in state of Maine harness circles in 2008 as the April 11 Scarborough Downs opener approaches.

The prolific outfit sent five to the post during the morning trials, parading victorious with Son Of The City, Lightning Myky, and Mannart Sound Wave, while settling for an impressive in-hand runner-up spot with stable newcomer, Sunset West.

Heidi Rohr commands one of the most powerful stables in the state of Maine.

“It felt great to be in action on our home track again,” Rohr remarked. “We’ve been trucking all across the northeast to race this winter and it was so nice to just walk them from our barn to the paddock without having to travel for hours. When it comes to racing a horse, there’s really no place like home.”

The Rohr roster mounted a serious challenge for top trainer status during the 2007 meet at Scarborough, finishing a tight second to eventual champion Kevin Switzer. From all reports and observances, Team Rohr appears perfectly placed for a similar challenge this season.

“We were grateful to see our horses perform so well today as they come back from their winter rest,” said Rohr. “We should have at least eight ready for the opening weekend and we’re certainly looking forward to another successful season.”

The 2008 season at Scarborough Downs opens on Friday, April 11, with post time slated for 4:15 p.m. (EDT).

Scarborough Downs will proudly feature live harness excitement every Friday and Saturday at 4:15 p.m., with the popular Sunday matinee cards rolling in behind the gate quite promptly at 1:30 p.m.
