Hennessey wins four as FSBOA stakes continue at Pompano

Pompano Beach, FL — Driver Wally Hennessey hit the grand slam as the FSBOA sponsored Sunshine State Stakes took place at Pompano Park on Saturday morning (Sept. 30).Hennessey won with the first time starter Dangerous Mood before completing his heroics with Famous C, Azzaro and Gold Star Diablo.

Hennessey, though, had to share the spotlight with last year’s Super Night champion, Prairie Panther, who used a :55.4 final half to score in 1:56.1 in his fall debut at Pompano Park.

Dangerous Mood, a 2-year-old gelded son of Proud Bushy owned by the Smiley Farm and trained by Jim Mc Donald, wired his foes for Hennessey in 2:02.3 off of panels of :29.3, 1:02.1 and 1:33.

Prairie Eclipse (Jim Meittinis) was 3-3/4 lengths away in second while Captain Thomas (John Campagnuolu) next.

Said Hennessey after the win, “Jim (trainer Mc Donald) said he had learned his lesson well up to now, so I thought I’d give him some racetrack early, He actually impressed me pretty well.”

Next, Hennessey sat back of the “Famously” bred Famous C, trained by Dan Hennessey for Amante Standardbreds,

The sophomore trotting filly made a quarter-move to the top and scored in 2:02.1–:29.3, defeating Prairie Pixie (Meittinis) and Sparkling Comet (Tom Lehmann).

Hennessey then picked up win number three with the sophomore trotting gelding Azzaro, who tracked down his arch-rival, I’m Done (Jim Mc Donald), at mid-stretch, to score by a length in a lifetime best 2:02.1.

Azzaro is a 3-year-old gelded son of Proud Bushy owned by Jay Sears along with trainer Kim Sears. His lifetime scorecard now reads 11-6-5-0 with this win pushing the youngster’s bounty over $50,000–$50,541 to be precise.

Gold Star Diablo, a gelded son of Mysticism, had to race way wide around turn one avoiding a mishap but maintained his composure before taking command three-eighths in. The hrose then used an explosive :28.3 finale to score in 1:58.3.

Gold Star Diablo is trained by Mike Deters for owner Dan Clements and scored by 3-1/4 lengths over Silver Wings (Corey Braden) with Jay Jay (Jay Sears) next.

Prairie Panther, the sophomore son of Royel Millennium owned by Laurie Poulin along with trainer Mike Deters, let Maybe Ned (Bryce Fenn) carve out panels of :28.3, 1:00.1 and 1:29 before tilting out around the final turn and wearing that rival down at mid-stretch to score by a length for Jim Meittinis. Fabiano (Hennessey) finished third.

Other winners on the stakes program were Krinda, Prairie Cowgirl and I Rhoda Daley.

Krinda, a 2-year-old daughter of Six Of Diamonds owned by Jay Sears along with son Brian, kept her young career unblemished by scoring her second straight for Bryce Fenn in a lifetime best 1:58.2.

The Kim Sears trainee scored a handy two-length win over Prairie Easter (Braden) with Prairie Foolish (Meittinis) third.

Prairie Cowgirl, a 3-year-old daughter of Royel Millennium owned by John Spindler, Laurie Poulin and trainer Mike Deters, pulled away turning for home to score by 26 lengths in 2:00 for Jim Meittinis.

Golden Diamond (Jim Hysell) finished second-over Gold Dust Darling (Hank Hayward) next.

Finally, I Rhoda Daley, a juvenile daughter of Desperado Don, won her second in a row—this one in a lifetime best 2:09.2

Jennifer was second for Jay Sears while Ms Katie B finished third for Gary Braden.

I Rhoda Daley is owned by Lee Clarke along with trainer-driver Jason MacDougall.

Pompano Park’s pari-mutuel season begins Sunday night, Oct. 1, with first post scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
