Pompano Beach, FL — The first leg of the Sunshine State Stakes, scheduled for Saturday (Sept. 16), has been postponed due to Hurricane Irma, which lashed South Florida over this past weekend into early Monday.
The first leg of the Sunshine State Stakes will now be held on Saturday (Sept. 23) after the qualifying races.
In postponing the races for this Saturday, FSBOA President Joe Pennacchio remarked, “It’s unfortunate, but you can’t argue with Mother Nature and she can be pretty nasty when in the mood, as we all witnessed over the weekend.”
Entries will be due on Wednesday (Sept. 20) and if you have already entered, you need not enter again.
The hurricane is not expected to impact the start of Pompano Park’s pari-mutuel season, which gets underway on Sunday (Oct. 1).
