Indiancamp Pa tops Flower Child Final

by Don Bielak, publicity director, Freehold Raceway

Freehold, NJ — Indiancamp Pa, the impressive winner of the two preliminary legs of the Flower Child Trotting Series, has been made the overwhelming 4-5 morning line favorite in the $26,300 series finale, which will be contested at Freehold Raceway on Thursday.

Indiancamp Pa has been dominant in the two qualifying rounds of the Flower Child, capturing the opening leg in 2:004 and following up that score with an easy 2:014 tally in round two last Thursday. All told, the four-year-old gelded son of Classic Adam has amassed a 7-4-0 across the board record in 15 starts this season while earning $22,400 for his owner/trainer, Walter Carroll of Washington, Pennsylvania.

Hall of Famer Cat Manzi, who guided Indiancamp Pa to victory in the preliminary rounds of the Flower Child, has been named to drive. The duo will leave the gate from post five.

The main threat to the favorite figures to be Sapphire Sue. In last week’s leg of the series, the four-year-old Sierra Kosmos mare demonstrated good speed throughout and finished second to Indiancamp Pa. Sapphire Sue has been very consistent so far this season — she has finished in the money in nine of 10 starts — and her usual alert start could be all that is needed to make her a serious contender in Thursday’s main event.

Sapphire Sue will open on the board as the 3-1 second choice in the early line and will start from post four. George Brennan, who has been in the sulky for all of Sapphire Sue’s charted races, will be in the sulky for trainer Tom Coddington.

Amesbury, Neshe, Nomireatras, Jessica Lane and Touchstone complete the field for the Flower Child Final.

First post for Thursday’s 12 race card at Freehold has been set for 12:30 p.m.
