ISB Development Advisory Committee seeks input

by Jessica Barnes, for the Indiana Horse Racing Commission

Indianapolis, IN — The Indiana Standardbred Breed Development Advisory Committee is currently conducting a review of the Standardbred breed development program.

The recent passage of legislation to allow the installation of slot machines at Indiana’s pari-mutuel racetracks will significantly impact the amount of revenue the breed development program receives. The first step in this review process is to identify which structural changes the Advisory Committee should recommend to the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

The Advisory Committee has set a deadline of September 15, 2007 for any industry participant/organization to submit recommendations for consideration. Proposals may be submitted in writing, by facsimile or e-mail to:

Indiana Standardbred Breed Development, Attn: Jessica Barnes, Director of Standardbred Racing, 150 W. Market Street, Suite 530, Indianapolis, IN 46204; e-mail: SBreedDev@hrc.state.in.us or fax: (317) 233-4470.

If you have any questions regarding the review process, you may contact Jessica Barnes at (317) 233-3120 or by e-mail at jbarnes@hrc.in.gov.

The Governor-appointed Standardbred Breed Development Advisory Committee, whose members include Michael Christner, Don Eash and Gordon Tabor, is responsible for making recommendations to the Indiana Horse Racing Commission on Standardbred Breed Development Fund expenditures. This fund was established to promote the breeding of horses while stimulating the agri-business sector of the state of Indiana’s economy.
