Campbellville, ON — Driver Jody Jamieson made the most of his 12 drives on Friday evening (September 23) at Mohawk Racetrack as he scored six victories.
Jamieson, who sits on top of Woodbine Entertainment Group’s driver standings, started his night off right with a victory in the second race. He guided Windsong Grand Ave (1:52) to the winner’s circle for trainer Shawn Robinson. His next win came in race four with the Tony Alagna-trained If I Didnt Care (1:52).
Jamieson then scored his next two victories with a pair of 2-year-old trotting colts in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Semi-Finals.
In the sixth race, he won with the post 10 starter, Tymal Oh So Nice (1:58.4) and then with Ill Be There (1:58.3) in the eighth dash. Both colts are trained by Jamieson’s father, Carl.
In race nine, Jamieson won with the Rene Laarman-trained Palm Patrol (1:55.4) in the C$30,000 OSS Grassroots Semi-Final for freshman pacing fillies. Jamieson then notched his sixth win and fourth Grassroots triumph of the night with the 2-year-old pacing colt Huxley (1:55) for trainer David Menary in the 11th tilt.
This marks the third time this year that Jamieson has won six races on a single card on the WEG circuit. The first was at Woodbine on February 21 and the second was at Mohawk on July 12.
“It is an amazing feat because the best drivers in Canada are here (WEG) and arguably the best drivers in the world are here,” said Jamieson. “We have the greatest meet in the world here and to do it once, let alone three times, I feel amazing about it.”
Jamieson gives much credit to the horses he drives.
“It is really hard to (win six races), but everybody knows how much you rely on the horse flesh,” he said. “If I didn’t have the horse flesh to drive it wouldn’t have mattered.”
The Moffat, Ontario resident has banked more than C$8.2 million in purses so far this season with 398 trips to the winner’s circle.
Jamieson is also just eight wins away from reaching a milestone, 6,000 lifetime driving victories. He currently has 5,992 career wins.
Jamieson’s biggest win of the year was the highly sought-after C$1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup with Up The Credit, who is trained by his father.
While representing Canada, Jamieson also won the 2011 World Driving Championship, which is his second WDC title. His first was in 2001.
Live racing returns to the Campbellville oval Saturday evening (September 24) with a first race post time of 7:10 p.m. The 13-race program will feature the C$400,000 Milton Stakes final for older pacing mares and eight Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Semi-Finals for 3-year-olds.
