Jeffery P wins sixth straight in Meadows $17,600 trot

Washington, PA — Jeffery P didn’t let the change in the calendar or a four-week layoff bother him as he rolled to his sixth straight victory in Thursday’s (Jan. 13) $17,600 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Jeffery P was a winner in 1:54. Chris Gooden photo.

Jeffery P had to hustle to the point from post nine, bit when Dave Palone gave him a :29.3 second-quarter breather, he had little trouble withstanding the first-over challenge of his stablemate, Perlucky, and defeated him by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:54. Icanflylikeanangel finished third.

Ron Burke trains Jeffery P, a 7-year-old Full Count-Betty Jean gelding who extended his career bankroll to $380,361, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phillip Collura.

Palone piloted three winners on the 10-race card as did Aaron Merriman, who scored twice for trainer Dana Kahrig.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday when the 10-race program features a pair of carryovers: $4,639.90 in the Jackpot Pick-5 (race four), $818.10 in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
