JK Songndance breaks NJSS mark

by Leon Zimmerman, for the New Jersey Sires Stakes

Trenton, NJ — For more than 10 years, CR Daniella held the New Jersey Sires Stakes three-year-old filly pacing record at Freehold Raceway at 1:53.2. And then, JK Songndance came along on Monday, September 5 with a 1:53.1 clocking over the half-mile oval.

With Hall of Fame driver Ron Pierce holding the reins, the daughter of Life Sign won the $45,400 Sires Stakes race, shaving one-fifth of a second off CR Daniella’s record that was set in 1995.

Trained by Linda Toscano for the 3 Brothers Stables, JK Songndance registered her third victory in 14 starts this year, boosting her purse earnings to $65,628.

With her 1:53.1 winning time, JK Songndance also equaled the overall Freehold track record shared by three other sophomore pacing fillies, Faster Boots in 1999, Best Laid Plans in 2000 and Card Trick Hanover in 2001.
