John Campbell to speak on ‘Driving Strategy’ at USTA Standardbred Driving School

from the United States Trotting Assn.

Columbus, OH — John D. Campbell will speak to the students at the 2013 USTA Driving School, to be held May 29–June 2 at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y.

“I am so pleased that John will be able to join us as an instructor this year. I’ve tried many times to get him but his racing schedule has not allowed it,” said school head Chip Hastings. “There is no one better than John and I know that it will be a great thrill for the students to hear him speak on the topic of ‘Driving Strategy.’”

John Campbell is North American harness racing’s all-time leading driver in purses with more than $280 million. He was elected into the Living Hall of Fame in 1990 at the age of 35, the youngest individual to be so honored.

Campbell got his start in racing from his late father Jim, a respected horseman in the western Ontario region. John had made a reputation for himself at the Detroit area tracks and at Windsor when the Meadowlands opened during the mid-1970s, luring Windsor Raceway’s racing secretary Joe DeFrank east. DeFrank remembered the talented Campbell and urged him to come to the Jersey miler, and now Campbell is the winningest driver in the history of the track.

Although Campbell has driven many world champions in his career, his accomplishments behind a trio of trotters are his most noteworthy. The colts Mack Lobell and Pine Chip and the filly Peace Corps are among the best of all time in their respective sex and gaits.

In the fall of 2012, he was named President of harness racing’s Grand Circuit and is working tirelessly to help create better awareness of the sport’s top races.

If you are interesting in owning, training or driving Standardbreds or you are simply a fan of harness racing, we urge you to not miss this once in a lifetime experience.

The 15th annual USTA Driving School will be held in Goshen, N.Y., from May 29–June 2. Sign up now while there is still space available!
